Dark Horse’s futuristic vampire comic, “Damn Nation,” is set to be adapted for the big screen. Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz, writers of the THOR script for Marvel, have signed on to pen the script for Paramount.

With this film, Paramount is getting in on two of the biggest cinematic trends, comic books and vampires. Apparently, people just can’t get enough of the two. The story doesn’t seem too terribly original, but there are a few new ideas being introduced.

The comic tells the story of the survivors of a countrywide vampire attack after the government has been forced to relocate to London while scientists search for a solution.

I wonder what (if any) political ideas will be explored in this film. I’m unfamiliar with the comic, but the idea of relocating to the country of our founding fathers on the verge of our own collapse is rife with potential and surely it can’t be ignored. Can it? Movies like this summer’s DISTRICT 9 gave me hope that big blockbuster films can still carry weight and fill the seats. Even the zombie films of George A. Romero have a bit of social/political commentary going on, though it is often overshadowed by the low budget aesthetic and gallons of blood.

In addition to writing THOR, Miller and Stentz have worked on the television shows “Fringe” and “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles” and penned the screenplay for AGENT CODY BANKS.
