  • TIME TRAVELER’S WIFE now to television screens?

This is the sort of news that makes me throw my hands up in utter disbelief. There is a line somewhere passed "ill-advised" and "ridiculous" that can be crossed - it will now be known as the "TTW line of moronity." Guess what, "moronity" isn't even a word, that's how far beyond the pale this is - I've started inventing words.

Cinema Blend is reporting that Audrey Niffenegger’s 2003 novel, currently in theaters in a poor film adaptation, is set to be made into a television series. The series is being adapted by "Friends" co-creator Marta Kauffman for ABC and Warner Bros. Television.

Word is that the television series development began long before the film adaptation, which really makes me wonder why we have not heard more about it. According to The Wrap, "ABC executives believe the complex plot of the original novel will work well in series form, since Kauffman will be able to explore the romantic relationship at the core of the story over the course of several seasons." Huh.

While ABC has given Warner Bros. a pilot commitment, there is no word on casting or other attached writers or producers. Kauffman is expected to write and executive produce.

Guys, I have to put the blame for this solely on myself. I was the one who spent my entire review of THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE naming the different parts that were left out of the film. I am the one who asked for this. Except I didn't, and I am mortified.

Am I overreacting? Could this possibly work? Any brilliant casting ideas that could perk me up again?

Sure, it could work. I'm of the mindset that with a good script/producer/director/cast, any idea, no matter how ridiculous, can work. Still, I'm as frustrated as you because this TV series already existed! It was called JOURNEYMAN and it was canceled despite being awesome! So I say scrap THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE and bring back JOURNEYMAN.

Insanity. Granted yes, much too much was left out of the film, but that is no reason to turn it into a TV series!

I'm just confused as to why, if this has been in development for so long, we haven't heard anything about it until now. Wouldn't they have had something to say about the film?
