Tom Cruise starring in Dan Fogelman’s political pitch for Warner Bros.
Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. beat out four other studios, including Fox, Paramount, and MGM, for a yet-untitled pitch from screenwriter Dan Fogelman (the writer behind WB's upcoming CRAZY, STUPID, LOVE starring Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling). Tom Cruise will star in the film, that centers around a politician who gets caught in a sex scandal and returns to his roots for a little hometown healing. No director is currently attached.
This is definitely new, more serious territory for Fogelman, as he has primarily written animated films to this point, with CARS/CARS 2, TANGLED, BOLT, and FRED CLAUS to his credit.
Cruise has been kind of off the grid lately considering his superstardom. But we should be seeing a lot of the actor considering MISSION:IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL is now in post-production with ROCK OF AGES heading into pre-production. Not to mention his recent attachment to the sci-fi comic book adaptation OBLIVION, the next film from TRON: LEGACY director Joseph Kosinski.
Cruise previously played a politician in 2007's LIONS FOR LAMBS for director Robert Redford.
