Trailer for BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS
The first official trailer for Werner Herzog’s remake of BAD LIEUTENANT is out. After watching this trailer, BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS looks like any typical cop-over-the-edge movie, and there doesn’t seem to be any strong connection between this film and Abel Ferrara’s BAD LIEUTENANT. This is supposed to be remake, not a reimagining, right?
The whole thing feels more like a situation where those behind the project knew a supposed remake of such a critically acclaimed and famously graphic film as BAD LIEUTENANT would get a lot of attention. So they kept the title (sort of), called it a remake of sorts, and made a story vaguely parallel, but not that similar.
Check out the trailer after the jump.
The trailer itself is not that impressive, like I said, your standard cop-over-the-edge movie, nothing too interesting. The first BAD LIEUTENANT film was so startling because it went past the point of no return along with its protagonist. You saw and felt things from that movie that seemed impossible. BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS doesn’t look it is going anywhere near as far the original BAD LIEUTENANT, taking more of a standard crime thriller route. Of course, I could be wrong, but this trailer definitely isn’t giving me a lot of faith in BAD LIEUTENANT: PORT OF CALL NEW ORLEANS.
