    Uncertainty

We move through our lives making choices that echo through our years. Some of them seemingly minuscule, like taking an alternate route to work, and some of them much more blatantly life-altering, like the jobs we chose or the people we spend our time with. Big or small, they alter the course of our lives, leaving behind what could have been or never was. But what would happen if you left one of these major decisions in your life up to chance? Better yet, up to the toss of a coin? And when you did this, what if both paths of your life, resulting from this toss, could be seen?

That’s the scenario that the film UNCERTAINTY poses, as a young couple leaves a life-changing decision up to a coin toss, resulting in two very alternate realities. One being a very dramatic tale while the other being a fast-paced thriller.

The film stars (500) DAYS OF SUMMER’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt and WOLVERINE’s Lynn Collins. It was written and directed by Scott McGehee and David Siegel, who brought us BEE SEASON and THE DEEP END.

UNCERTAINTY played at the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival, but is just now getting a limited release on November 13th. IFC will also be releasing the film as a VOD for a 3-month run on November 11th. Check out the intriguing trailer after the jump.

    • I thought the premise of the film was intriguing but the execution fell flat. I had very little emotional resonance with the dramatic plot line and didn't feel much tension in the action plot line. Having them juxtaposed created an interesting effect, but did little in carrying my interest through to the end. It felt more like I was watching an experiment of narrative than I was, a movie. I do applaud the ambition of this film though.

It's a a gorgeous looking film, shot by Rain Li, perhaps one of the best young cinematographers working today. Despite the shortcomings in story, the visuals make it worthwhile.
    • I am honestly excited and interested for this one... it looks good and yes, JGL in the lead role doesn't hurt either. ;)
