Trailer for UNTIL THE LIGHT TAKES US
Earlier this week, I showed you the poster for UNTIL THE LIGHT TAKES US, a documentary about Norwegian black metal that is soon getting a limited release. Now I’ve got the trailer for you, and it certainly doesn’t flinch at showing us some of the darkest stuff to be covered in the film, namely the connections that people make between those involved in the black metal scene and various violent acts, including a number of church burnings and murders.
The trailer makes strong mention of the Black Circle, a loose group started by Mayhem guitarist Øystein Aarseth (referred to in the trailer by his nickname, Euronymous). Euronymous was actually murdered in 1993 by another black metal musician, Varg Vikernes of the band Burzum. The murder occurred during the wave of church burnings in the mid-1990s, stirring up even more resentment to an already-maligned cultural scene.
