TRANSFORMERS 2 prepares for record-breaking weekend
Don’t let its 22% score on Rottentomatoes or Rusty’s 5/10 score fool you, TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN is a hit. Its $60 million Wednesday opening crushed HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, whose previous record of $44 million was no match for Michael Bay’s hyper-charged robots. Next up on the list of records to crush is the best five-day gross for a Wednesday movie, which currently belongs to SPIDER-MAN 2 at $152 million.
If TRANSFORMERS continues on this hot streak, analysts are predicting anywhere from $160 to $180 million for its first five days in theaters. That would be enough to beat SPIDER-MAN 2, but not enough to beat THE DARK KNIGHT, which opened on a Friday and grossed a stunning $203 million in its first five days. Personally, I’ll be steering clear of TRANSFORMERS for the time being, mostly because of the negative reviews and because I’m too poor to be seeing bad movies.
