TRANSFORMERS 2 PROPOSAL of a HANGOVER made things look UP
As expected, TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN was review proof – breaking the Wednesday opening record with $60 million and five day opening with $201 million, beating SPIDERMAN 2, who had previously held the record at $152 million.
Coming in second was Sandra Bullock’s surprise hit THE PROPOSAL with $18 million, giving it a total of $69 million and topping its budget of $40 million. I guess it’s safe to say she’s back.
Third, fourth, and fifth went to THE HANGOVER, UP, and MY SISTER’S KEEPER (opening debut), respectively. THE HANGOVER’s $35 million budget will agree that its $183 million domestic gross is a pure success.
UP’s domestic gross is now at $250 million, making it the top-grossing film of 2009 so far (#2 being STAR TREK with $246 million).
