TWILIGHT to be re-released for one night only
Summit Entertainment is pulling the “duh” move of the year, planning to re-release TWILIGHT the night before its sequel, NEW MOON, hits theaters. Summit is currently planning showings of the first film from Stephenie Meyer’s global phenomenon in over 2,000 theaters on November 19. NEW MOON opens on November 20, so the plan is for TWILIGHT to show at 9:00 or 9:30PM, just before the midnight showings of NEW MOON that will paralyze our nation’s theaters and render our tweens senseless. A TWILIGHT double feature? Lives will be changed.
Oddly enough, S.T. VanAirsdale over at Movieline, who I typically agree with, thinks this is a bad move on Summit’s part, saying that NEW MOON looks like a “soapy, goofy-looking sequel.” By putting TWILIGHT up before NEW MOON, it will only highlight the possibly “inferior” sequel. This, of course, begs the question – did you see TWILIGHT, S.T.? It’s, well – it’s not good. I’ve notoriously never been on the Catherine Hardwicke train, and while I am a TWILIGHT fan, I will be shocked if the subsequent three films don’t blow her first outing straight out of the icy waters of La Push.
What do you guys think? Am I being too hard on Hardwicke? Expecting too much from Weitz? Are you clearing your schedule for the TWILIGHT / NEW MOON double feature right now?
