The fate of Harvey Dent in THE DARK KNIGHT remains unclear to many fans. Despite a nasty fall and a full funeral service, it has been hard for many (myself included) to believe that not only will we not get have another Heath Ledger performance, we will also be deprived from seeing more of Two-Face. Now, Dennis O’Neil, the writer of the movie novelization, seems to have put the speculation to rest.

He writes in the book about Dent’s final moments, “”sprawled, neck twisted, the mutilated side of his face exposed, his left eye open and staring sightlessly. He was obviously dead.”

So what do you think? Is this the final nail in the coffin? I’m still hopeful. This is, after all, the world of comics. Anything is possible.

    1. I hope so. As much as I like Aaron Eckhart, there’s no way he could carry a whole movie by himself as the lead villain. The performance just didn’t put you on the edge of your seat. Now, if he were to come back as a so-called “supporting villain”, that might work. But, he would have to go a little bit more mad. …and I think “dying” could maybe assist in that.

    2. ‘obviously dead’ means that they’re trying really hard to ‘kill’ him so they can bring him back to life… pardon my comparison, but in soap operas they always have really obvious deaths and funerals for those who were supposed to have died

Everyone comes back to life in comics. I think we didn’t get enough of two-face to make the decision as to whether or not he could carry a movie as the villain and with him next to the Ledgehammer’s Joker it’s almost not fair to base it on his portrayal of the villain in that movie. Generally, though, you get two villains per comic book movie and I’m sure the next will be no different. Batman has an arsenal of pretty solid villains. I’d really like to see Robin and the Penguin or the Riddler in the next movie.

      Penguin FTW!

    5. I agree with your points YOOD, I just felt personally that Aaron Eckhart was kinda awkward when he actually became two-face. He played a really good Harvey Dent but unless they were just developing a nice background story for him in DARK KNIGHT, I felt it wasn’t the best performance. Now, if he comes back totally off the deep-end, I might understand why they did what they did in this movie.

As far as Robin, I’ve posted my theories on this interweb site before. I felt that there was a really strange connection between Batman and Commissioner Gordon’s son…almost gay like….almost Sam and Frodo-esque. It would make sense to see him suit up as Robin as opposed to a traveling trapeze artist. It fits into Nolan’s down-to-Earth approach as well.

      balls.

    6. PENGUIN FTW FEATURING PHIL SEYMOUR HOFF. ONLY VILLAIN /ACTOR PORTRAYAL THAT COULD KEEP UP THE MOMENTUM OF NOLAN’S TAKE ON ALL THINGS BATMAN.

EKCHART WAS ANNOYING IN TDK IMO, KILL HIM OFF TO MAKE ROOM FOR A LEGIT VILLIAN WHO ACTUALLY INSTILLS FEAR INTO THE HEART OF AUDIENCES WORLDWIDE

    7. ….i’d just like to say that although heath ledger was amazing, the joker did not instill fear into my heart. and i don’t think any future villain would either.

moving on. i hope 2-face really is dead cuz i just don’t think i can sit through 2 hours of that nasty face. eeeehhhh, gross gross.
