    Sutherland and Foster

The remake of the Charles Bronson hitman film, THE MECHANIC, is getting a double dose of blonde intensity. The Jason Statham-starring project has just added Ben Foster and Kiefer Sutherland to its cast.

Foster, who can currently be seen in the horror film PANDORUM and soon as the lead in the upcoming drama THE MESSENGER, will be playing Steve McKenna, a hired killer in training that is being taught by Statham’s character. Sutherland is set to play Statham’s sort of boss and Steve’s father, Harry McKenna.

The involvement of Statham, and now Foster and Sutherland, inspires some hope in this remake. However, the project will be directed by Simon West, the man who sat in the director’s chair for the cinematic turds THE GENERAL’S DAUGHTER and WHEN A STRANGER CALLS, so I still wouldn’t be expecting a lot from THE MECHANIC remake. With the actors playing the film's three critical roles, setting expectations in the realm of moderately enjoyable seems about right, even with West behind the camera.
