After five seasons, the two-time Daytime Emmy award-winning talk show “The Tyra Show” is calling it quits. The show’s current season, which ends in the spring of 2010, will be its final one. With her newfound free time, Banks will focus on launching Bankable Studios, a production studio she says will bring “positive images of women to the big screen.” She is currently reviewing possible projects.

Back in 2007, Bankable Productions inked a deal with Warner Bros. to create and produce original primetime television series programming, as well as original movies for Warner Premiere, the studio’s direct-to-consumer production arm. With Warner Premiere, Banks executive produced THE CLIQUE, a direct-to-DVD movie based on the best-selling book series of the same name.

Banks’ Bankable brand aims to empower young women through entertainment.

“My next huge steps will allow me to reach more women and young girls to help us all feel as fierce as we truly are,” Banks says. Filmmaker Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey are credited for providing support for Banks’ decision. “With Oprah’s big announcement this year, I think that gave Tyra the confidence to get out there and follow her longtime dream of film producing,” an inside source said.

I’ll be curious to see what films Bankable Studios puts out. Banks’ own acting work, while varied, isn’t very impressive.  She has appeared in the likes of HIGHER LEARNING, LOVE & BASKETBALL, COYOTE UGLY, and HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION, just to name a few.

    • I actually watched that episode, with The Clique (I think because they mentioned Twilight in that one as well)... which led me to see the movie. It was decent, but derivative. Not something to rush out & see, but it had some strong young cast-members that are already becoming successful outside of that film (it was troubling to see their mostly blank IMDb resumes after watching the movie) - I'm glad to see that. I had forgotten The Clique was based on a book series.

I'm sure she's better off producing films. She's certainly already got the connections to get it done.
