  • UPDATE: Rep for Joaquin Phoenix say he isn’t onboard for THE BEAUTIFUL CIGAR GIRL

    This is a little sad.

On Friday, news hit reporting that Joaquin Phoenix would be returning to the big screen after all with the film, THE BEAUTIFUL CIGAR GIRL.  The film is based on Edgar Allen Poe’s real life investigation into a mysterious death of a woman, and sounded like an interesting project.

News came from Resul Pookutty, an Oscar winning sound recordist, who told outlets that the actor would be joining the project, and in turn set the internet a blaze.  Well, it appears as though it was all for naught, at least if reps for Phoenix are to be believed.

Reps have denied that the actor has been linked (via The Playlist), and personally, it’s a damn shame.  Coming hot off of TWO LOVERS, Phoenix proved yet again that he is one of the better actors of his ilk, and it’s rather depressing that we may not see the man on screen for a while.  He will almost certainly return, but really, this would have been a great project for him to get back into the swing of things.

What do you think?  Are you still interested in the film?
