View-Master: the movie
Let’s run down the list: there’s Stretch Armstrong, Battleship, Facebook and Clue. All of these are inanimate objects that served as the inspiration for upcoming movies. Well, now you can add the View-Master to that list. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this toy doesn’t seem as popular today as it was when I was growing up in the late 80s and early 90s. For those of you who never got to play with one, the concept was simple: insert a wheel full of pictures, look through the View-Master and see the pictures come to life in 3D. Bad-ass toy, but how the hell do you make a movie out of that?!
The project is the brainchild of Brad Kane, co-producer on the TV show Fringe. Today he tweeted that he hopes the movie will be “like the old 80’s Amblin movies: Goonies, Young Sherlock…In that vein.” Promises of a GOONIES-style movie are nice, but I’ll believe it when I see it. Keep up the good work, Hollywood.
