Warner Bros. asks the Academy to consider WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE
Good news, WILD THINGS fans, Warner Bros. has just asked the Academy to consider the film in this year’s Oscar race. The Oscar ceremony, which is the most prestigious film award ceremony celebrated nationally and internationally, takes place in February every year. A lot of films that open around this time until Christmas are believed to carry “Oscar Buzz,” which then gets them into the consideration game to be nominated.
WILD THINGS is one of my favorite movies of this year, which unfortunately received mixed reviews. I never doubted Spike Jonze’s vision once when he was announced to direct the celebrated children’s novel, written by Maurice Sendak. After dropping my love for the film in my review, I expressed my understanding on why some people may not like the film – it’s definitely not for everyone. Right now, it’s currently sitting at a 70% on Rotten Tomatoes and I’m OK with that. 2005’s CRASH has a 75% rating and went on to win Best Picture, beating out BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN (86%) and CAPOTE (90%).
Check out the list of categories Warner Bros. has asked the Academy to consider the film for after the jump. If you’ve seen the film, let me know which category you think WILD THINGS stands a chance in. I’ve bolded my predictions.
