  • Warner Bros. to remake Park Chan-wook’s SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE

First, it was Spielberg's notorious remake of OLDBOY with Will Smith attached to star. Then there was the UNTITLED SYMPATHY FOR LADY VENGEANCE REMAKE with Charlize Theron. Well, apparently Hollywood feels the need to have remakes of all three of Park Chan-wook's VENGEANCE trilogy in some form of production.

Warner Bros. has picked up the rights for a US redux of Chan-wook’s SYMPATHY FOR MR. VENGEANCE (the first in the trilogy) with the screenplay from newcomer Brian Tucker. VENGEANCE tells the story of two men out for blood from the killers of their significant others, only to find that each is responsible for the death of the other's lover. It's a Shakespearean-esque tale that only Chan-wook can tell in his signature brand of violence and twisted drama. Which is the very reason an American remake scares me...

Uber-producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (SALT, G.I. JOE, TRANSFORMERS 2) is set to produce. Reason number two an American remake scares me...

As a side note, there has been rumor of a remake of Park's J.S.A.: JOINT SECURITY AREA for quite some time. What's next? THIRST?
