Wes Anderson gets spacey and says he would like to shoot a movie there
File this news under silly with a hint of serious. Director Wes Anderson (THE ROYAL TENANBAUMS) recently expressed his interest in wanting to set one of his future films in space. Not only that, but Anderson says, “If possible I would like to try to actually shoot some of it on location in space. That’s my preference.”
As I said, this was most likely just Anderson being jovial but it raises an interesting idea. Just think…an eccentric, indie sci-fi film directed by Wes Anderson. Anderson has explored the deep blue sea with THE LIFE AQUATIC, the open land of India with THE DARJEELING LIMITED and the inside of our hearts with all of his films. Why not a film that goes beyond the places of this world? Imagining the director behind the camera of a sci-fi film, that’s mixed with his particular style, is something that I think would have a lot of weight to it, gravity or not!
As a side note, Anderson says that his next film is not of the sci-fi genre yet he hopes to work on a new idea he has that is just his own. The auteur also added that he would like to do more adaptations down the road. “It’s nice to reach a point in the story and say, ‘What happens in the book?’ and you can just look in that and get your answer.”
His next film is, of course, the stop motion adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s tale THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX, which hits theaters November 25th.
