WHOLPHIN NO. 9, a quarterly DVD magazine ft. short films by @hitrecordjoe, Spike Jonze and more
Though we are huge fans of whales here at GATW, we also have admiration for “the lovechild of a bottlenose dolphin and a false killer whale…the beautiful hybrid born of invention and exploration” known as WHOLPHIN. After all, we are related…sort of. I’m also a huge fan of the quarterly DVD magazine Wholphin, released by the McSweeney’s Publishing House and will be checking my mailbox in anticipation of their latest release, Wolphin No. 9.
McSweeney’s is a publishing house founded by screenwriter Dave Eggers. They produce such works as the quarterly literary journal Timothy McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern, the monthly magazine The Believer, the daily-updated literature and humor site McSweeney’s Internet Tendency, as well as numerous book titles.
Previous issues of Wholphin have included the works of Miranda July, David Byrne, Patton Oswalt, Bob Odenkirk, Andy Richter, Errol Morris, Michal Cera, James Franco, and John C. Reilly to name a few. The latest installment has much to be excited for, including three shorts by Spike Jonze and a film by Joseph Gordon Levitt. Check out the “Table of Contents” after the jump.

This has been a big year for Egger’s who saw the release of AWAY WE GO, the film he co-wrote with his wife, Vendela Vida; as well as co-writing with Spike Jonze, the film adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are. Eggers also penned a novelization of the film, entitled The Wild Things, that was released earlier this month.
