Wipe that blood off your forehead and put a smile on that face. WATCHMEN 2 may not be happening.
Yesterday, we brought you word of a rumor that DC’s senior vice president Dan Didio was campaigning for a whole slew of WATCHMEN spin-offs, including possible sequels and prequels to the book and maybe even the film. But someone Nikki Finke refers to as “a well-placed insider” says that is a joke that would make The Comedian laugh his ass off. Check out what this industry insider had to say after the jump.
“There is no truth to anything related to a movie sequel. Not a chance by a longshot. With regards to the comics, well, I guess anything is possible. I’ll keep my opinion to myself as to whether it’s a smart idea to do so.”
It is important to note that this is all rooted in speculation and rumor, both the original story as well as this follow-up denial. It is more about the idea behind it, and people’s reaction, that makes it worth talking about. Furthermore, the commentary behind Hollywood exploiting something creative and original for profit, in turn, eliminating what attracted people in the first place.
With that said, the public outcry seemed to be well in the direction of negative towards this idea. In other words, all the suits and producers will look up and shout “Buy WATCHMEN 2″…and we’ll yell “No.”
