WONDERFUL WORLD gets a poster
Our good buddies over at Cinematical have an exclusive look at the official poster for WONDERFUL WORLD. We first told you about Magnolia Pictures’ acquisition of the film back in September.
WONDERFUL WORLD stars Matthew Broderick as pothead Ben Singer, a divorced misanthropic children’s folk singer/career proofreader. Despite being a less-than-stellar father, Ben’s only happiness comes from the chess games he plays with his Senegalese roommate Ibou (Michael Kenneth Williams). When Ibou falls ill, an insensitive municipal employee makes the situation worse, thus proving Ben’s pessimistic worldview. Ben puts all his energy into a frivolous lawsuit against the city. When Ibou’s sister Khadi (Sanaa Lathan) takes his place in their apartment, the awkward living arrangement becomes something more, and he finds that a change in perspective could be the cure to his cynicism.

The fact that this is a dark comedy about a failed children’s performer makes me think of DEATH TO SMOOCHY, which I found to be fairly enjoyable. I can’t wait to see this.
WONDERFUL WORLD is directed by screenwriter and first-time director Joshua Godlin, who wrote the screenplay for the action film DARKMAN. WONDERFUL WORLD will premiere on VOD, Amazon, and XBOX Live on December 4, 2009. It opens in theaters January 8, 2009.
