Worthington possibly filling the Cruise void in THE TOURIST
Sam “the best thing thing about TERMINATOR: SALVATION” Worthington is in talks to star alongside Charlize Theron in THE TOURIST. If cast, Worthington would play the male lead – a role vacated by Tom Cruise in order to star in James Mangold’s (WALK THE LINE) untitled action comedy with Cameron Diaz. VANILLA SKY reunion!
THE TOURIST, a remake of the French thriller ANTHONY ZIMMER, follows an Interpol agent (Theron) in her attempts to use an unsuspecting tourist to lure and capture a criminal that used to be her lover. The film will be director Bharat Nalluri’s (MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY) sophomore effort.
The film’s synopsis is reminiscent of the shockingly boring spy flick, THE INTERNATIONAL, which starred Naomi Watts and Clive Owen. However, it wasn’t THE INTERNATIONAL’s plot that made it boring so much as it was the film’s lack of action and genuinely thrilling moments. So, if THE TOURIST decides to up the ante where THE INTERNATIONAL did not, it could possibly prove to be quite entertaining. All in all, it sounds like a pretty safe, smart move for Worthington if he does in fact end up signing on to the project.
The actor currently has James Cameron’s long-awaited AVATAR as well as Louis Leterier’s CLASH OF THE TITANS remake in the works.
