WWII-era zombie comic book NIGHT & FOG optioned
The zombie subgenre is one that, like the walking corpses it is based upon, will likely reanimate itself time and time again. I’m pretty certain that not even shooting it in the head would stop it. It is an undead genre, feasting on our pocketbooks. Not that I am complaining…
With this year’s success of ZOMBIELAND, I imagine we will see even more zombie films rise out of the ground. Take, for instance, NIGHT & FOG, a horror comic set during WWII that tells the tale of a mysterious fog that transforms anyone in its path into a zombie. As the dwindling survivors attempt to fight off this zombie horde, they find that only trying to kill the creatures makes them stronger and more difficult to stop. Think THE FOG meets PLANET TERROR meets WWII.
The film has been picked up by producer Gilbert Adler, who is no stranger to the horror genre or comic book fare. Adler has previously produced the comic book-to-film adaptations of SUPERMAN RETURNS, CONSTANTINE, and most recently DEAD OF NIGHT. He has also been a producer on such horror films as GHOST SHIP, THIR13EN GHOSTS, and HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL, as well as the horror anthology TV show “Tales From the Crypt.”
DEAD SNOW made an attempt at the whole zombie WWII soldier idea with less than successful results…I’m enthusiastic to see if NIGHT & FOG, which sounds to be an interesting premise, can get it right.
