9 helmer Shane Acker directing live action THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE film
Because when I think of the perfect director to helm an adaptation of a beloved children’s TV show, I think of a man who grinded his teeth on really dark post-apocalyptic fair.
According to Deadline, that’s exactly what has happened in the career of one Shane Acker. The director, best known for his feature film 9, based on a short of the same name, is set to helm a live action take on Thomas The Tank Engine. The film will of course be set in Sodor, land of talking trains, where we meet Thomas, and the rest of the crew.
Created almost 70 years ago, Thomas The Train Engine has shockingly not been turned into a feature film yet, but with Acker this project definitely has a gifted filmmaker behind it.
As a fan of 9, it is really upsetting that Acker has decided to go the route of a franchise instead of doing something original, but it will definitely be intriguing to see what a visionary like Acker can do with a seemingly innocuous brand like this.
