There has been some buzz in the past week about the title of Kevin Smith's newest film. Originally, the film was titled A COUPLE OF DICKS, then it was changed to A COUPLE OF COPS, and after much fan outcry it was once again changed back to A COUPLE OF DICKS. After TV stations refused to run ads that say "DICKS" until after 9 PM, Smith knew it had to be changed. But, it looks like the new title might have been figured out!

Check out all the evidence after the jump!

One of the first bits of evidence came out after this tidbit was posted on the News Askew web page.

"The Movie Formerly Known as A COUPLE OF DICKS has finally settled on a (network-policy-dictated) replacement title! While we’ll always have DICKS in our hearts, the title we just now locked makes me smile on a bunch of different levels – including this 1: we can now advertise our movie properly (& ironically). And said marketing begins… on every print of SHERLOCK HOLMES, Christmas Day!"

Then, The Film Stage was reporting that the name might have been changed to COP OUT, according to this.

Trailer Placements: 12/25/09

* Sherlock Holmes: (ATT) Clash Of The Titans (TR1) / Inception (TR2) – COMBO RT 2:30 – New Trailers
* Sherlock Holmes: (ACC) Cop Out (TR1) New Trailer

This is showing that a new trailer named COP OUT will be premiering with SHERLOCK HOLMES. Being that COP OUT is not a movie that anybody has heard of previously, it almost seems like a sure deal! But, to even further argue that the name has changed to COP OUT, I saw this little tidbit that Kevin Smith posted to his official Twitter feed at 5:47 PM.

"Via @Momma_Harper "They're not going with 'A Couple of Dicks'? That's such a cop-out" Hm. Has a nice ring to it..."

If this isn't telling, I don't know what is. I have a pretty good feeling that the title COP OUT is a sure thing. The only other explanation for the tweet I can think of, is if he is trying to lead us all on. For now, I'm going to assume that the title will be COP OUT. I guess we will find out for sure along with SHERLOCK HOLMES, if not sooner.
