A ROCKY 7? I thought we were done with this, Sly?
I think most people thought that, with the sixth film in the ROCKY franchise, ROCKY BALBOA, Sylvester Stallone did a fine job of ending the story of the iconic character. Rocky gained some new friends, proved he still had it in the ring, and appeared at peace with life when it was time for the audience to leave the theater.
However, it seems Sylvester Stallone is just unable to let Rocky Balboa go. In a recent interview with Tele5 in Germany, Stallone said he would like to make a ROCKY 7. Peter Martin of Cinematical translated the transcript of the interview using Babel Fish and came out up this interpretation of Stallone's comments:
"I know people would laugh at it, as I would if someone were making The Godfather Part 10. Enough! But I also know that if I succeed, it will be because this is a film about aging, not about boxing. I know it will provoke criticism. Even my wife said to me, Leave it. You'll embarrass the children. But I said, if I do not try, I an a very unfortunate man. One must do it. Artists must go again and again through the dark."
Of course, some is lost in translation and it stops making total sense towards the end, but you still get the point.
First of all, I wouldn't worry about embarrassing the children of the man who made JUDGE DREDD until all copies and traces of that film have been erased from this earth. Secondly, I think most people were fine with how ROCKY BALBOA ended things, but if Stallone wants to make another ROCKY film, I'm sure he can convince someone to help him make it.
What about you? Are you at all excited about the possibility of another ROCKY film?
