With TV shows like The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack  and Sym-bionic Titan, Genndy Tartakovsky has become one of the biggest names in animation.  However, he has yet to lend his talents to a big screen, studio-backed feature film, or at least until now.

Variety is reporting that the cast for his upcoming film, HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA, has been put together, and includes the likes of Adam Sandler, Kevin James, David Spade, Cee Lo Green, Steve Buscemi, Molly Shannon, Fran Drescher and Andy Samberg.

The film is set in “Dracula’s lavish, five-stake resort where monsters and their families can live it up, free from meddling humans.”  James will star as the lead, Frank (Frankenstein) with Drescher as his bride.  The rest of the crew will take on various iconic monster roles ranging from a Mummy (Green) to Quasimodo (Spade).

Personally, as a fan of Tartakovsky, this is a film I absolutely can’t wait to see.  He’s an animator that has such a singular visual eye, that there really won’t be anyone like him on the big screen.  That said, this cast is dreadful.  Hopefully the fact that we’ll only be hearing their voices will work well, but here’s to hoping Tartakovsky can really hold up this material.  The film hits on September 21, 2012.
