ALBERT NOBBS gets U.S. theatrical distribution
Let the Oscar race for Best Actress begin! Deadline Hollywood reports that Rodrigo Garcia's ALBERT NOBBS has been picked up for stateside distribution by Roadside Attractions and Liddell Entertainment. The film is currently set for a release in the fall, putting it right in the middle of the Oscar season.
ALBERT NOBBS focuses on a woman, played by Glenn Close, who disguises herself as a man to work and survive in Dublin during the 1800s. Mia Wasikowska, Pauline Collins, Brenda Fricker, Brendan Gleeson, Aaron Johnson, Janet McTeer, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers also star.
It’s surprising that it took so long for ALBERT NOBBS to pick up a distributor here in the States, as the film is bona fide awards material, particular for Close's performance. In the 1980s, she starred in an off-Broadway production as the lead character; she also co-wrote the film’s screenplay and will produce the feature.
We can't be sure if ALBERT NOBBS will be a hit with Oscar voters, but at least we can look forward to seeing Close and a slew of other exceptional actors give some stellar performances in this drama.
