Viggo Mortensen

The largely autobiographical work of Jack Kerouac, On the Road, arguably defines the Beat Generation. I don't know what to say about a film adaptation of the book (is nothing sacred?), and I'm not terribly impressed with the casting so far. But today's bit of casting news makes me feel better about this project.

Viggo Mortensen and Amy Adams have been added to the cast, which includes Garrett Hedlund (TRON: LEGACY), Sam Riley (CONTROL), Kristen Stewart, and Kirsten Dunst. I guess you'd want your cast to be young and hip for a film such as this. The film is currently in production in Montreal, and it will be released sometime in 2011.

Mortensen will play Bull Lee, a character based on William S. Burroughs. Adams will play Jane, a character based on Joan Vollmer, Lee's drug-addicted wife and mother of two children.

The film is to be directed by THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES helmer Walter Salles.

I think that may have been my personal bias coming into play. Cobra has been one of my favorites for a long time and even though I recognize how important the original Rocky is to the whole series, I found the movie itself to be a tad slow and boring. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good movie mind you just a personal preference BTW, Stallone only got paid 30K to do Cop Land.
