Amy Adams joins Paul Thomas Anderson’s religious drama
Amy Adams has proven that one needn’t abide by the laws of Hollywood typecasting. Sure, she might be known to most for Disney’s fantasy-satire ENCHANTED, but she’s snagged three Oscar nominations, two of which were for roles in serious dramas that saw her stretching her acting chops far beyond the cutesy norm with which most associate her.
She’ll be appearing alongside Jason Segel and the Muppets for, well, THE MUPPETS, before the end of the year. While that is sure to be tons of fun, the acting gig she just signed on for will see her once again heading into far grimmer territory. Deadline Hollywood relays that Adams will star in Paul Thomas Anderson’s upcoming film that more or less accounts for the rise in popularity of Scientology.
Formerly titled THE MASTER, it follows Philip Seymour Hoffman as a World War II veteran who creates a new religion to cope with the post-war trauma, with Adams playing his wife; actors such as Laura Dern, Joaquin Phoenix, and Jesse Plemons are also attached to star. With Adams being thrown into the already exceptional lineup of actors in the film, it’s sure to boast a slew of amazing performances if nothing else.
Filming for this currently untitled feature is slated to begin by the end of the month.
