Anna Faris

With the film set to hit theaters on May 11, 2012, the cast for Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest effort, THE DICTATOR, is slowly building.

Deadline is reporting that Anna Faris has been offered a role in the film, which will see Cohen playing the role of a “ruthless dictator who heads to the U.S. for a meeting at the United Nations and finds that his number two has replaced him with an unsuspecting sheepherder lookalike. As the dictator wanders the city, he meets the owner of an organic food store. That's the role Faris is negotiating.”

The film will be helmed by BORAT and BRUNO director Larry Charles, and is being released thanks to Paramount, after what was a relatively intense sales period, and is based on the novel Zabibah and the King, penned by Saddam Hussein. Yeah, a tad bit controversial.

All in all, this sounds like a really intriguing project, particularly given the envelope pushing that had been done by both BRUNO and BORAT. Despite the lackluster film that BRUNO was, this sounds like it could be a really great little film, and one that my just be the bit of material that Cohen needs to do to really get back to his subversive style of comedy.
