Anne Hathaway to join ROCK OF AGES?
Well, I mean, okay.
Somehow, I've had a mental block when it comes to the development of the big screen adaptation of Broadway musical Rock of Ages. I blame the news that Tom Cruise is set to take the lead in the Adam Shankman-directed film - something about it is just too similar to a Saturday Night Live skit brought to life. Can the possible casting of the leading lady change my mind? Maybe.
Deadline is reporting that Anne Hathaway is in talks to take the lead female role in ROCK OF AGES, as described as an "uptight journalist who intends to eviscerate Cruise's decadent rock star Stacee Jax with an expose." Can you guess what happens next? Yeah, she falls for him, which apparently leads to them dueting on Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is" and having a "passionate" love scene. You know what, no, I'm still not into this.
In any case, the big question is if Hathaway could fit ROCK OF AGES filming in around THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, as both films are slated to lens around the same time. However, my big question is, why would Hathaway make her first real musical debut with ROCK OF AGES, not the long (long, long) talked about Judy Garland biopic? That's what I want to see.
Rock of Ages the musical is a theatrical smash, generally viewed as a good time to be had by all. The musical features songs by Journey, Whitesnake, Styx, and Bon Jovi.
ROCK OF AGES fans, what are your thoughts on this potential casting?
