Seriously, this thing is getting almost too good to believe.

Variety is reporting that Anthony Mackie, who we all last saw in the underrated gem THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU, is set to join the cast of the upcoming crime film, GANGSTER SQUAD, for WB and director Ruben Fleischer. Mackie joins Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, and the recently added Michael Pena in the film, which will follow an LAPD crew who is formed in the 1940s to stop the East Coast mob’s influence on West Coast crime.

The film is being penned by Will Beall, and has become WB’s number 1 non-DARK KNIGHT related project, and appears to be speeding towards production. Tom Hanks and Jamie Foxx have both had talks to join the film as well according to The Playlist, but the same outlet reveals that the pair are likely not joining the project.

Personally, I love Mackie’s addition, and it only proves that this flick is one that WB and the film world as a whole have the highest of expectations for. The script is one of the most buzzed-about pieces of writing in years, so with the cast and crew they have assembled here, this one looks to be an absolute must see.
