Well this came a bit early.

According to Blu-ray.com the Criterion Collection will be making quite the splash this fall.  The team at Criterion have confirmed that they will be releasing Terrence Malick’s THE THIN RED LINE, Lars von Trier’s ANTICHRIST, Wes Anderson’s THE DARJEELING LIMITED all in DVD and Blu-Ray. As well as Blu-Ray releases of David Cronenberg’s VIDEODROME, Kurosawa’s SEVEN SAMURAI, and Stanley Donen’s CHARADE.

The three new releases aren’t too shocking, as both ANTICHRIST and THIN RED LINE have been hinted in a couple of rather straightforward cartoons in their weekly newsletter, and of course, Wes Anderson is a collection favorite, with each of his previous films (BOTTLE ROCKET, RUSHMORE, THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS, LIFE AQUATIC) being released as part of the collection.  However, that makes them no less amazing, and makes me no less excited to get my grubby paws on these DVDs.  Also, the new Blu-Ray announcements make me rather interested, particularly VIDEODROME.  It’s a really under seen film, and will no doubt look great in HD.  SAMURAI is going to look great no doubt, and CHARADE is a fantastic film, so all in all, this announcement could not make me happier.

It will be interesting to see what else the collection has in store for the coming months, particularly with their IFC partnership.  I’m still crossing my fingers for that FISH TANK release.  Here’s to hoping.
