Antoine Fuqua shooting Tupac Shakur biopic in September

One of music’s most legendary characters is set to get a biopic, and it’s from a person you wouldn’t have expected.

With the addition of the Bruce Willis starring, THE TOMB, to his slate, Antoine Fuqua seems to be quite the busy bee as of late. According to an interview with Digital Spy (via The Playlist), the filmmaker’s next project however, will be a biopic based on the life of late rap legend Tupac Shakur.

“It looks like we’re doing Tupac Shakur’s movie next in September, that’s what I’ve been starting up and working on now. I’ve been working on that for a while with Morgan Creek and Jim Robinson.  I just got the greenlight from him and we’re going in September.  I’ve just started to prep that.”

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen the rapper on screen in a biopic though.  The last time he was taken to the silver screen was in the Notorious B.I.G. biopic from last year, NOTORIOUS, with Anthony Mackie rather brilliantly cast in the role.  The man himself not only lived an interesting life (understatement of the century), but is also a perfect person to take to the screen.  With the right actor in the role with a bit of actual skill behind the mic (although it doesn’t have to be much, because he wasn’t known for having the most amazingly technical flow in rap), this could be a great film.  He could go from hardcore rap tracks like Hit ‘Em Up, and then go to much, much deeper fair like Dear Momma and Keep Ya Head Up, only proving that this guy had one of the most interesting minds in rap.

While Fuqua isn’t quite my first choice for the film, hopes are definitely high for this one, as it has the potential to be truly great.

Would prefer to see Romany Malco (40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN, WEEDS, THE CHATEAU) n the role. West Side.

You win for best casting idea ever. That's perfect casting in my opinion.
