Eminem will team up with Antoine Fuqua for SOUTHPAW

Director Antoine Fuqua (TRAINING DAY) has long been attached to the helm of the Tupac Shakur biopic, but he’s unfortunately decided to take on another project, one that’s probably bound for more disappointing results.

24 Frames reports that he’ll be stepping on board for the DreamWorks boxing drama SOUTHPAW with Eminem – yes, that Eminem– to step into the leading role. Kurt Sutter, who created FX’s hit drama Sons of Anarchy, came up with the idea for the film, as well as its script. The film focuses on a welterweight dealing with personal tragedy and will lift some inspiration from the life of Eminem.

SOUTHPAW sounds like a bit of a drag, honestly. Then again, I’m generally not a huge fan of sports flicks. However, boxing dramas may have found their rightful place in society again as THE FIGHTER with Mark Wahlberg – another rapper-turned-actor – was a huge success with critics and moviegoers alike. It’ll probably be hit at the box office, but I’m not betting on praise from the critics or any Oscars.
