Because when I think of romantic biopics, I think of the man behind films like TRAINING DAY and SHOOTER.

Joking aside, that is just what is set to happen, according to THR. The outlet is reporting that director Antoine Fuqua is set to helm a yet-to-be-titled film that will look at not only the Tang Dynasty and Emperor Xuanzong, but his relationship with “one of the four famed beauties of ancient China” Yang Guifei as well.

Xuanzong was the longest reigning Tang monarch, and the pair’s “love affair has been widely celebrated by classical poets and is the subject of paintings, Chinese operas, books and television shows in the subsequent millennium.”

Personally, while I’m not too keen on seeing a romance done by Fuqua, I do think that this is quite the interesting little project. I’m admittedly a fan of much of the director’s work, and the epic nature of story does definitely intrigue me.  It will also be quite an interesting follow-up to Fuqua’s upcoming Tupac Shakur biopic.
