A few weeks back, word got out that Armie Hammer was next in line to join Gore Verbinski's take on THE LONE RANGER, already set to star Johnny Depp as Tonto. Now comes confirmation that Hammer is in final talks to take on the role.

Depp has been attached to the Tonto role for some time, with recent chatter heating up about who would become his Lone Ranger (remember that Ryan Gosling rumor?). But don't expect this to be just a retread of an old classic - Verbinski told the LA Times back in February, “The only version of THE LONE RANGER I’m interested in doing is Don Quixote told from Sancho Panza’s point of view. And hence I was honest early on with Johnny that Tonto is the part. We’re not going to do it [straight]. Everyone knows that story. I don’t want to tell that story.” The script for the film comes from Justin Haythe.

Hammer's next few roles will only continue to cement his place as emerging young talent. We will see him in Tarsem's BROTHERS GRIMM: SNOW WHITE, where he will play the prince. He's also going to be seen in a supporting role in Clint Eastwood's J. EDGAR.

The film will shoot in fall after Depp finishes up with DARK SHADOWS and Hammer completes SNOW WHITE.
