Armie Hammer joining THE LONE RANGER?
After having his name brought up in the same breath as Batman, Superman, and ultimately a member of the cast of the upcoming Clint Eastwood film, J. EDGAR, actor Armie Hammer has taken the momentum given to him by his star turning performance in THE SOCIAL NETWORK, and is running with it.
And now, he may be taking it to a much different type of project.
Deadline is reporting that Hammer is in “early talks” to star in the upcoming film, THE LONE RANGER. The film would see him take on the lead role, opposite Johnny Depp, with Gore Verbinski as his director.
Hammer has seen a cavalcade of roles come his way after SOCIAL NETWORK, but this is far and away the biggest one that he’s taken on. And honestly, it’s a role that I think he’s absolutely perfect for. The guy has the good looks to take on a role like this, and he also has the build to fit perfectly in the action heavy sequences.
I’m still not totally sold on Depp as Tonto, but with everyone involved at this point, this is one film that I can’t wait to check out. Here’s to hoping this one can get off the ground relatively soon.
Hammer recently signed on to place Prince Andrew Alcott in Tarsem's THE BROTHERS GRIMM: SNOW WHITE, opposite Lily Collins and Julia Roberts.
