ARTHUR remake gains Jennifer Garner and Nick Nolte
Way back when, we here at GATW reported that the lovely Helen Mirren would be joining Russell Brand in his remake of the 1981 comedy classic, ARTHUR. Now, Variety tells us that Jennifer Garner and Nick Nolte will be joining the already talented cast, which, by the way, also includes Greta Gerwig.
The original, which was nominated for four Academy Awards and won two for Best Original Song and Best Supporting Actor, follows Arthur, a rip-roaring aristocrat who is in an arranged marriage with a well-to-do young woman, but instead falls for a poor girl. Garner will be playing the “well-to-do young woman” and Nolte, her hard-nosed billionaire grandfather, the brains and muscle behind the marriage between his granddaughter and Arthur. Nolte’s character is set to supply a large sum of money to Arthur should he choose to go through with the marriage.
As of now, Jason Winer will be directing and writer Peter Baynahm (BRUNO, BORAT) will be penning the screenplay.
Generally, the rule goes that if Jennifer Garner is in it, it’s undoubtedly more beautiful, but not that much better. Granted, she rarely ever hurts a project, but she’s certainly not the shining light in her casts. Of course, it’s only speculation at this point. The material is pretty great. Thoughts?
