ATTACK THE BLOCK star John Boyega nabs two new projects
It’s about time this kid has made good on his sudden stardom. Variety reports that John Boyega, who played the heroic Moses in ATTACK THE BLOCK, has joined two films, one a sci-fi film entitled CREEPING ZERO, and the other a drama starring Thandie Newton and Chiwetel Ejiofor known as HALF OF A YELLOW SUN.
YELLOW SUN, directed by Biyi Bandele, follows the story of a man looking to establish Nigeria as an independent republic, following the war that ensued. The film will be based on the novel from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. CREEPING ZERO, helmed by Billy O’Brien, should be right in Boyega’s wheelhouse, as the young thespian definitely seems at home within the genre.
Personally, while I was rather lukewarm on ATTACK THE BLOCK, Boyega was a clear standout, so hopefully these two films will help prove that he’s a true leading man. YELLOW is the more intriguing of the bunch, but indie science fiction is the best science fiction, in this writer’s book.
