Atticus Ross scoring 47 RONIN
If there is a composing duo more beloved and hotly sought after right now than the team of Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor, I don’t know who the hell they are. Be it their work on THE SOCIAL NETWORK, garnering them an Academy Award, or their score for THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO, the pair are easily the most talked about composers working right now - and apparently they are even being offered solo gigs.
Ross is set to score the upcoming film 47 RONIN for director Carl Erik Rinsch and star Keanu Reeves. The film will also star Rinko Kikuchi, Hiroyuki Sanada, Kou Shibasaki, and Tadanobu Asano. It's described as a 3-D samurai epic following 47 men who take revenge after their leader is forced to take his own life by forced seppuku.
Personally, while I’m not a huge fan of Reeves as an actor, the fact that Rinsch is such a visually gifted director and Ross is a very solid composer (even outside of his work with Reznor on films like THE BOOK OF ELI), this is quickly becoming a project I absolutely can’t wait to check out. Having Ross work on a period piece like this is an odd but interesting choice that really adds a lot to this project. It hits on November 21.
