This contest is now over.

Gordon and the Whale and Paramount Pictures invite our Austin readers to attend a free advance screening of their new film TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, starring Shia LaBeouf, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Josh Duhamel, and Tyrese Gibson.

The screening will take place on Monday, June 27th, 2011 at 7:30PM in Austin, Texas. To redeem passes, follow the link below. But you better act fast...the link is only good for so many passes so once they're gone, they're gone. Good luck, movie lovers!

These passes are first-come, first-serve and do not guarantee you seats. Due to the high demand of this film please arrive no later than two hours prior to showtime or there may not be any more seats available.

PLEASE ONLY ENTER IF YOU CAN SURELY ATTEND THE SCREENING. ONE ENTRY PER HOUSEHOLD. MUST BE AT LEAST 17 YEARS OF AGE TO ENTER. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY.

TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON hits theaters June 29th, 2011 in RealD 3D & IMAX.

We only get a very small number of passes for films like this, unfortunately, and they go fast.

You should come to ATTACK THE BLOCK on Thursday – it’s a blast.

Once the gofobo rsvp code is known anybody and their dog can email it to whoever they want to insure all their friends get in and no one else does.  It’s stupid and I’m not quite sure why the studios like to use this crap.

        • https://gordonandthewhale.com JamesWallace

Oh, I most definitely agree that Gofobo is an easily abused and flawed system but unfortunately the studio mandates how passes are distributed. Sometimes we do pass drops, sometimes we do epasses, and sometimes we have to go with Gofobo.

With Gofobo, we use to send it to a select number of people who entered the contest but, as you noted, everyone and their dog can email it this way so we would often get emails back from those who justifiably won saying that the passes were already redeemed. As I’m sure you know, it only takes a few people to ruin it for everyone. This became so common the bigger our site got that it became unbearable to deal with. We do this because it’s fun and we love giving movie lovers opportunities like advance screenings. In other words, it was beginning to not be fun.

Sure, our new method may be a mad dash to the finish line so to speak but at least it gives everyone a chance. All the more reason to follow us on Twitter, Facebook, and check the site regularly so that you can be one of those people to get there first.

As the person on the site that’s in charge of screenings, I really do value your feedback and would be open to any more you may have, as well as any ideas on how to improve the system we have to work within.

            Why no Dallas screening?

          • https://gordonandthewhale.com JamesWallace

We’re working on it. We’ve had some complications with the Dallas screening and we’re trying to get them resolved. Stay tuned…

If a pass opens up for Austin, I would love to go…I saw the Transformers movie in Vancouver BC on vacation……..the first time around…..wow…I thought I would not like it, but I was wrong. It was fun….

    • https://gordonandthewhale.com JamesWallace

We’d love to make your wish come true Deanne but unfortunately these passes were a hot ticket item and went very quick. And once they’re gone, they’re gone! But definitely keep checking back…the summer movie season isn’t over yet and we’ll be doing contests for all the biggest releases!

Can more passes for the transformers be made, its first come first serve any way

    • https://gordonandthewhale.com JamesWallace

Sorry Jacinda. We wish it was this simple but it just isn’t. The studio overbooks a screening by a specific, mathematically calculated amount to ensure the theater will reach capacity. So while it is first come, first serve and it is purposely overbooked, it is still kept to a manageable amount by only creating so many passes.

While we’re one of the biggest promoters of screenings in DFW and ATX, we receive a select amount of passes due to the fact that there may be three or four or five other outlets who promote a screening along with us. So the passes have to be divided up amongst those outlets.

Also, if there were an unlimited number of passes distributed, hundreds of upset people would be turned away. I’ve seen it happen in the past and it’s not pretty.

I would love a couple tickets to this movie….If a couple tickets open up for this Austin screening….I will be there.

Hey Deanne. I replied to your comment that you left 2 days ago but maybe you missed my reply. Once the passes are gone, they’re gone and unfortunately the studio rarely if ever frees up any additional passes.

As you can see in my reply to Jacinda below, the studio overbooks a screening by a specific, mathematically calculated amount to ensure the theater will reach capacity. So while it is first come, first serve and it is purposely overbooked, it is still kept to a manageable amount by only creating so many passes which is why they can’t create more. As Chase said in his reply, if there were an unlimited number of passes distributed, hundreds of upset people would be turned away.

Definitely keep checking back on our Contests page…the summer movie season isn’t over yet and we’ll be doing contests for all the biggest releases!
