Avril Lavigne unveils “Alice (Underground)”

As we told you earlier, there are two music releases accompanying Tim Burton's upcoming ALICE IN WONDERLAND film. There is the Danny Elfman score and a compilation called Almost Alice which features music "inspired by" the film. The track listing for Almost Alice was released last week and for me it leaves much to be desired - peppered with MTV hitmakers such as Avril Lavigne, Owl City, and Plain White T's. The soundtrack seems to be a emo/mall punk/tween dream.

The film's first single is “Alice (Underground)” written by Avril Lavigne. You can check it out after the jump.

I made it through about 15 seconds before I had to turn it off. But then again, I don't think I make up the target demographic for this particular album. I'm much more interested in hearing Danny Elfman's score.

ALICE IN WONDERLAND will see a theatrical release on  March 5, 2010. The film stars Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Mia Wasikowska as a 19 year old Alice as she returns to the whimsical world she first encountered as a little girl. There she is reunited with her childhood friends: the White Rabbit, Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the Dormouse, the Caterpillar, the Cheshire Cat, and the Mad Hatter.

You turned it off after 15 seconds? Thanks for the deep, all encompassing, educated, stab at writing a review.Writers that have taken the time to dissect this song have varying opinions on it's merit, but at least they've done their homework and made an attempt at scratching below the surface in order to form an opinion.

Well, she's not a music critic, she's a film critic. I understand she should view everything with an open mind, but if she doesn't like what she hears, then she doesn't like what she hears.

Maybe the studio is trying to max out as many Hot Topic dollars that they can? Did Tim Burton or his team have any sort of decision about this?

This was intended to be film-related news, not a review dear Anonymous reader. I have and will continue to write all encompassing/educated reviews of films for this site. I draw the line of reviewing third-rate pop songs by mediocre (at best) pop singers. I call 15 seconds of listening to that song an attempt at scratchin gbelow the surface in oder to form an opinion.

That is a good question. I'm guessing the answer is NO.

First of all, Avril Lavigne is not a pop singer, and she certainly isn't mediocre. And please make a note to take care in your spelling – *below
