I was browsing my Twitter feed earlier when the Austin Film Society tweeted about an app in the iTunes store called "Film Festivals." Now being a festival veteran, I bought the app ($1.99 - that's cheap, folks) so I could download and see if it's interesting enough to write about. It is.

This app is actually really impressive and very detailed. There are over 1,000 festivals already stored in their database and I can't image how long that took to collect. You can search for a festival by Country, State, Festival Month (very handy for press and filmmakers), Submission Deadline (also very handy), and Genre/Name, or you can browse the entire list of their database. You can also select the Calendar function to browse festivals by month.

Check out more details about and images from the app after the break.

When you select a festival, you have the option to "Add to iPhone's iCal Calendar" and save it as a favorite. As seen below, the date of the festival's next run is displayed, along with the city, state, country, the deadline for filmmakers to submit, and the film genre's the festival plays. Some festivals come with an email contact and phone number as well.

Right now that's all the app does, which again, is a lot, but they've made room to add so much more. I'm hoping that when festivals announce their film lineup, Film Festivals will import the list into the app.

Click HERE to buy the Film Festivals in the iTunes store for just $1.99. Seriously, it's worth sacrificing two double cheeseburgers from McDonalds.
