Barry Levinson

Well, that didn’t take too long.

Variety is reporting that just a few weeks after the announcement that director Nick Cassavetes was leaving the director’s chair on the much-hyped project, GOTTI: THREE GENERATIONS, it is Barry Levinson who is currently finalizing a deal to take over the vacant spot.

The film, for those who may not know, will follow the Gotti crime family, as seen through the eyes of John Gotti Jr.  Set to star John Travolta, Joe Pesci, and Lindsay Lohan, the film is currently being set up, with no real start date set in stone at this point.

Travolta is going to be hard at work this summer on Oliver Stone’s SAVAGES, and with Lohan in the midst of some legal issues, GOTTI doesn’t appear to be moving forward all that rapidly.

That said, the film is definitely an interesting one, particularly the weird collection of talent they have in front of and now behind the camera. I’m a fan of Levinson as a filmmaker, and this will be an interesting follow-up to his upcoming horror flick, THE BAY, which should be hitting later this year.
