BATMAN 3 to shoot this year?

One project that has gotten more than its fair share of randomly ludicrous rumors has been Christopher Nolan’s hotly anticipated sequel to 2008 monster hit, and critically lauded film, THE DARK KNIGHT.

Well, it appears as though you can chalk up yet another one to that ever growing list, but with a definite grain of possibility.

According to a source over at Moving Image (via The Film Stage), it appears as though a crew member on the set of the Simon Pegg and Andy Serkis starring and John Landis directed film, BURKE AND HARE, has a bit of an update on the upcoming BATMAN film.

…he also said sets were either being constructed, or will soon be constructed, for the third Batman, with the possibility of shooting toward the end of the year.  He also said that they were coming under budget at the end of The Dark Knight, so they built a whole extra set (possible usage in the third film).

Now, the source is actually worth its weight, in that he has previously worked with Nolan on THE DARK KNIGHT, as well as his next film, INCEPTION, so this shouldn’t be taken all too lightly. Throw in a studio who would love to see a big money-maker hit the theaters come summer 2011, a script being reportedly worked on by Jonah Nolan and David Goyer, and a filmmaker who doesn’t like to take much time off, and you definitely have a possibility.

But, I don’t necessarily think that by the end of the year is a makeable date, or should be set for a crew who so far hasn’t been subjected to really many deadlines, but it is a distinct chance.  I don’t think we’ll see it that soon, but I don’t doubt that Warner Brothers is going to want to get this thing into production rather quickly.  Summer 2012 looks like its inevitable date, but who knows. It’s just great to hear that there is actually movement behind the scenes on this project, if this source is to be believed.
