BATMAN 3 Update: Titled THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, not going to be in 3D, Riddler not the film’s villain
And the BATMAN 3 news keeps on coming.
Just a day after announcing that a female lead was being looked for for the upcoming third film in Chris Nolan’s BATMAN run, not only do we have a title, but we have a few other rather interesting details about the film.
According to Hero Complex, the film will be titled THE DARK KNIGHT RISES which, based on the last film, should come as little surprise. That gives us a good look into what to expect narrative-wise, setting the narrative up after the rather brilliant ending of THE DARK KNIGHT. The outlet also spoke to Nolan himself, who stated that the film’s villain “won’t be the Riddler.” If you remember, Tom Hardy has joined the cast as a “villain” character, leaving me to presume that he’ll be the film’s main baddie. Finally, the film will (thankfully) not be in 3D, which is definitely an interesting idea for a major tentpole film in today’s cinematic climate.
Personally, I think the most interesting news here is that the film won’t feature The Riddler. I said from the outset that Hardy would be a rather awful Riddler, so the idea that that is now off the table makes this writer very excited. It will apparently be a signature comic book villain, leading me to believe that at this point, all signs point to The Penguin, Hush, Bane, or Deadshot. Who do you think the villain should be?
I do genuinely love the film’s title, and it not being in 3D makes this writer a happy little geek. Overall, if news keeps rolling out of the Nolan camp like this, I don’t know how I can wait any longer to see the damn thing.
The film hits July 20, 2012.
