“Beasts Of Burden” comic coming to the big screen
For every Spider-man or Batman project, there are smaller comics that are also riding this wave of comic-based film properties hitting the big screen.
The latest indie comic to get a rush of interest from higher ups around the film world is the Evan Dorkin and Jill Thompson book, Beasts of Burden. THR is reporting that the book has been optioned by Andrew Adamson and Reel FX, with the plan being to adapt the book in an animated film.
The book follows a crew of pets who must save their owners in the town of Burden Hill, after various supernatural acts put people in danger. Sounding like an odd mix of both family-friendly and darker aspects, and knowing that Adamson directed the first two SHREK films (as well as the first two NARNIA projects), definitely leaves me to wonder what type of film we’ll be getting here.
Personally, while I’m not familiar with the book, I do really dig the premise, and I think it’s ripe for a film version. That said, seeing Adamson’s previous works, I’m not quite sure if he’s the name that I want behind an adaptation like this. I love the premise, so hopefully there won’t be much lost in the shuffle.
What do you think?
