Ben Affleck casts himself in ARGO
With Ben Affleck’s last film, THE TOWN, not only being a great step forward for him as a director, but also featuring one of his best performances in years, he is looking to keep this momentum going.
Variety is reporting that Affleck has cast himself in the lead role in his new film, ARGO, his third directorial outing.
The film is set in 1979, and follows the rescue mission of a group of hostages by a CIA team who pose as a group of Hollywood filmmakers working on a new project. The film is based on true events, and will see him starring alongside Alan Arkin and John Goodman.
Personally, as a fan of Affleck as both a filmmaker and an actor, I think this could be a really good project for him. It sounds like a bit of a mixture of tones with the movie-within-a-movie stuff being apparently much lighter than the obviously dark hostage plot, so it will be interesting to see how Affleck handles this mix as a director and star. Affleck is on one hell of as streak as of late, so hopes are definitely high for this film.
