After being mentioned as a possible director for films like SUPERMAN and Warner Bros.’ upcoming film, GANGSTER SQUAD, current “it” actor-turned-filmmaker Ben Affleck may have finally found his next project.

THR is reporting that the director is currently in “early negotiations” to direct a film entitled ARGO. An adaptation of a Wired magazine article, the film will revolve around the Tehran hostage crisis, and will see producers George Clooney and Grant Heslov backing the interesting sounding project.

The article, penned by Joshuah Bearman, was published in 2007 (read it here), and “centers on how, during the occupation of the American embassy by Iranians in 1979, a rescue effort was mounted by the CIA and the Canadian government to extract six U.S. diplomats.”

Now, this will be the director’s most timely piece of filmmaking, and honestly, I can’t think of a better director to back this type of project. The combination of Affleck and Clooney should be a really impressive one, and with a script from Chris Terrio, this could be an absolutely fantastic film.
